Position Summary / Career Interest

Plans, directs and coordinates activities relating to the protection, safeguarding and security of Olathe Medical Center's, Miami County Medical Center's, and Olathe Health Physician's employees, patients, physicians and visitors. Monitors current safety-related legislation/standards and ensures organizational compliance. Implements and monitors safety, security and emergency management programs. Develops, implements, and manages safety activities and training relative to safety compliance issues. Ensures compliance with applicable Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, EPA, OSHA and other regulatory requirements. Manages and coordinates activities of the on-site security officers administering program to safeguard life, property and protection of facility personnel, visitors, patients and assets. Serves as corporate liaison with local law enforcement and public safety officials.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

• Prepares and submits required reports and evaluations to the Environment of Care Committee, and other committees as required, and prepares and submits reports to the leadership team as needed.
• Maintains a thorough understanding of security systems in all buildings.
• Performs audits of security related performance and conducts physical surveys of the Olathe Health properties with a focus on safety and security, including security equipment condition. Identifies security risks to employees, patients, and visitors.
• Responds to all appropriate emergency codes and assists security officers as needed.
• Ensures all work necessary for compliance with TJC, NFPA, OSHA, State of Kansas, EPA, etc. is completed on schedule and properly documented.
• Provides oversight of the security management plan. Updates the plan as necessary. Provides communication and training for the plan.
• Serves as the corporate liaison between Olathe Medical Center, Miami County Medical Center, Olathe Health Physicians, and local law enforcement and public safety organizations.
• Develops, implements, and maintains preventative security programs, safety and security training programs, and policies and procedures. Ensures all education and training requirements are met.
• Develops, implements, reviews, and revises departmental policies and protocols to assure the safety and security of Olathe Health.
• Assures the timely investigation of all security incidents occurring on campus. Makes recommendations and/or implements changes to procedures to reduce or eliminate the re-occurrence of an incident.
• Responsible for the oversight of the recruitment, education & training, promotion, discipline and termination of security supervisors, officers, and other Security staff.
• Provides guidance to contract personnel of Olathe Health's activities and security functions, utilizing knowledge of established policies, procedures and practices.
• Define and guide ad-hoc response to mitigate physical and non-physical threats or potential threats to Olathe Health's employees.
• Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree
• 10 or more years of experience in Security, Law Enforcement, or Military Police
• 5 or more years of supervisory experience

Preferred Education and Experience

• 1 or more years of hospital/healthcare security experience

Required Licensure and Certification

• Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) - International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 1 Year OR
• International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety Supervisor - International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 1 Year
• Valid Driver's License upon Hire
• In order to carry a firearm, a full psychiatric assessment must be completed and passed by an Olathe Health approved Psychiatric Provider
• In order to carry a firearm, a Private Detective License with armed endorsement issued by the State of Kansas, or Handgun Safety (Concealed Carry) Instructor License issued by the State of Kansas
