The Chief of Security is responsible for effective and efficient use of security resources across the agency to support safe and secure operations and institution readiness for emergencies. This position is responsible for the development and consistent application of standards regarding security operations through consulting with rules coordinators, program leaders, operation management staff, and other stakeholders through the department.

The Chief of Security provides management and oversight of the Transportation and Emergency Preparedness units. This position also oversees Statewide Security Audits, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) operations, Crisis Negotiation Teams, Institution Staff Deployment, and other programs as necessary.

The person in this position may be required to respond 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, and the decisions made have real effects on the employees of the Department of Corrections, Adults in Custody (AIC), and our community.

This position may be remote with frequent travel to central offices in Salem and correctional institutions throughout the state as necessary in the completion of this work.


Security Operations Administrator 1

Five years of management experience; OR two years of management experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Requested Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of concepts of public administration, correctional practices, business development, and regulation
  • Large Scale emergency management including planning and implementing emergency responses
  • Demonstrated skills and understanding of security audits in a correctional setting Use of Force principles, applications, and investigation
  • Budget creation, management, and reporting
  • Creating, implementing, and maintaining policies and procedures
