Workplace Violence Continuum

Return to Program Best Practices
In light of recent events the Security Executive Council has made available the Workplace Violence Continuum graphic in its entirety to the public.

The Workplace Violence Continuum graphic is an overview of a comprehensive workplace violence mitigation program and can help guide or assess your workplace violence program. The document covers the four main phases of workplace violence:
  • Prevention
  • Detection
  • Determent
  • Response
Using the Workplace Violence Continuum Graphic:
This graphic is a process chart, an internal awareness tool and program development tool. Each column in the chart represents the different stages of prevention as well as response after an incident. The items within the columns offer options to consider for each stage of your program.

It can be used for:
  • Program design
  • Management concurrence for your workplace violence program
  • Cross-functional team concurrence at each stage of the process; while this chart is specific to security, it could be modified for other members of a cross-functional team working together
