L.L.Bean is currently searching for a Director of Corporate Security to lead the Loss Prevention and Security team located in Freeport, ME. In this important role, this person plans, directs and coordinates Security and Loss Prevention operations, including the protection, safeguarding and physical security of company assets and employees. This role interfaces with public law enforcement, community members and company shareholders as appropriate.


  • Develops and manages security programs that control access to L.L.Bean’s facilities, properties, executives and employees.
  • Develops and communicates security policies throughout the organization in areas such as personnel protection (store staff, customers, executives), physical security (store and building systems), on-line e-commerce fraud protection, security risk management, and the employee identification card system.
  • Develops and tests broad emergency response programs to meet a wide range of internal and external situations. Coordinates and directs company-wide emergency procedures as needed in conjunction with senior leadership in Safety, Facilities, Legal Risk & Compliance, and the Executive Team.
  • Provides employee training as needed.
  • Conducts audits meant to identify potential security weaknesses and ensure compliance with applicable security standards.
  • Investigates and records accidents, theft or other losses, or allegations of illegal behavior.
  • Oversees Manages through the Regional Managers of Loss Prevention the programs relevant to retail security and loss prevention operations at the company’s 50+ retail stores, from site selection to ongoing auditing.

  • 4-Year Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent professional experience

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in conducting investigations, people management, emergency preparedness, retail loss prevention, and law enforcement proceedings.
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP) credential through the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS)
  • Experienced in evaluation & situational analysis of threats and able to offer grounded solutions for abatement
  • Proven ability to evaluate the cost of controls supporting business need while addressing perceived exposure.
  • Extensive knowledge of Security strategies and technologies
  • Experience developing fraud management policies and procedures and successfully executing programs that meet objectives.
  • Professional demeanor and credibility to enable cross-functional collaboration
  • Robust organizational and time management skills
  • Strong influencing skills and sound judgement
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate across wide range of audiences
  • Demonstrated management leadership skills; proven ability to lead and develop staff
