Security Hiring Practices and Security Diversity

Return to Corporate Security Career
Created by the Security Executive Council

The news in recent years has paid considerable attention to social media's effects on job recruiting. The Security Executive Council regularly conducts Security Barometer quick polls of its Tier 1 Leader and online communities to take a snapshot of security practitioners’ opinions on specific security issues, and in 2015 we decided to explore this one.

The first question of the poll explored where social media stood in the ranking of recruitment resources.

Results showed that the leading sources of successful job candidates were referrals and classic sources such as job ads and online job boards. What about Diversity in the Workforce?

Our initial hypothesis was that Security departments were not very diverse groups and that they might have problems meeting their organization's diversity goals. However, more than 70% of those polled felt that their group met or exceeded their organization's diversity targets.
